Girard named national sales manager, Schiller-America
Jim Girard has been named national sales manager for U.S. operations at Schiller-America. Girard joins Schiller from Cardinal Health Inc., where he was regional sales manager in the medical products and services division. Prior, he served Graham-Field for 10 years as southeastern regional sales manager and VP of sales for the medical-surgical and home health products division.
Seneca Medical’s Bounds passes
Seneca Medical announced the passing of Donnie “Hank” Bounds, who passed away on March 19, 2005. Bounds spent over 30 years in the medical industry. He was with McKesson for many years but spent the last six years with Seneca Medical. Bounds leaves a wife and five children. He will be missed by family, friends, customers and fellow employees.
Midmark receives MESA
Midmark Corp. recently won two Manufacturer Excellence in Sales Awards (MESA) given by the Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA). The awards were presented at HIDA’s annual executive conference held March 2, 2005, in Tucson, Ariz.
Each year, HIDA honors manufacturers with MESAs in the three HIDA primary market categories: hospital, long-term care and physician. Midmark has been honored with a MESA for three consecutive years and, this year, became HIDA’s first recipient to win in two market categories: physician market and hospital market.
Consorta wins advertising awards in three categories
The Healthcare Marketing Report awarded Consorta Inc. with three 22nd Annual Healthcare Advertising awards. A silver award was given for Consorta’s innovative magazine advertising series entitled “Group Purchasing That Delivers Unsurpassed Value to Healthcare.” The ads were part of a complete advertising campaign involving direct mail and electronic banner ads that also received a bronze award. In addition, the company’s quarterly newsletter, Consorta News, became a three-time winner with its own bronze award.
Olson named president, CEO at Roche Diagnostics
Indianapolis-based Roche Diagnostics Corp. named Tiffany Olson as its new head of North America, president and CEO.
Island Dental Co. hires Miller
Island Dental Company Inc. appointed David Miller as equipment specialist/ branch manager for its Sacramento branch. Miller brings over 30 years of experience and a vast knowledge of the medical and dental product sales and marketing industries to his new position. He held positions with 3M for 16 years and Air Techniques for 14 years.
Karen D’Arcy was promoted to manager, product development department at IMCO. D’Arcy has been with IMCO for five years in contract administration, promotional development and is the creative impetus behind the highly successful Winner’s Circle promotion.
IMCO promoted Angie
McLaughlin to director, member relations. McLaughlin has spent the last four years with IMCO as manager, member relations, visiting and learning the needs of IMCO membership, and relaying that information back to the IMCO office. She also detailed and encouraged participation in IMCO marketing and vendor programs.
Born named VP, contract and purchasing services at Novation
Novation in Irving, Texas, the supply company of VHA Inc. and the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) named LeAnn R. Born as VP, contract and program services, in April. As VP for contract and program services, Born is responsible for Novation’s contract development process, member council and task force activities, and contracting and program development in laboratory, respiratory, anesthesia and support services (business products, food and nutrition, and facilities). Prior to joining Novation, Born held several leadership positions during her 12 years at Allina Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis.
Carlson joins Seiler Precision Microscopes
Seiler Precision Micro-scopes in St. Louis named Dane Carlson as sales and marketing manager. Carlson will be responsible for driving national and international sales, while training, motivating and coaching dealer and independent sales representatives. Prior to joining Seiler, he worked in the pharmaceutical/medical sales field.
Quinton Cardiology, Burton promotions and awards
Burdick’s top sales performers were honored during its annual global sales meeting in Carefree, Ariz. The award winners included Scott Cummings, District Manager of the Year; Ron Begole, Zone Manager of the Year; Jim Mattei, Rookie of the Year; and Brian McCarthy and Jeff Kurn, Outstanding Performance.
Quinton Cardiology Systems Inc. promoted Marty Meyer to western zone manager for its Burdick brand. Meyer will take immediate responsibility for Burdick sales growth in the western and southwestern United States. Meyer joined Quinton Cardiology in 1997 and was previously a Burdick district manager.
The company also promoted Brian McCarthy to Burdick manager, national sales training. McCarthy will take responsibility of sales training for all U.S. field sales representatives. He was most recently southern zone district manager and joined Quinton Cardiology in 2001.
NDC appoints sales administration VP
National Distribution and Contracting Inc. (NDC) appointed Suzanne Lord as VP of sales administration. Lord has 16 years of management experience with over 11 years in the healthcare supply chain. She began her career with Safeskin Corp. and later worked with Cimtek Commerce. Lord was also the U.S. representative for an Indonesian-based manufacturer of synthetic disposable gloves, where she developed private label relationships with U.S. companies.
Symphony Medical appoints new executive VP
Symphony Medical appointed Timothy J. Callahan as executive VP. Callahan, who has over 30 years of experience in healthcare, will be responsible for the company’s strategic growth initiatives, business development opportunities and expansion of the company’s product and service offering. Prior to joining Symphony Medical, Callahan served as senior VP, sales and marketing at Owens & Minor, a company he joined in 1997.
PSS mourns the loss of Reid
Matthew Reid, 38, passed away on May 12, 2005, as the result of a traumatic head injury suffered the prior week while on a golf outing in Las Vegas, Nev. He was operations manager of the Charlotte branch of Physicians Sales and Service for 13 years and was respected and admired by all his co-workers and friends in his industry. Reid leaves his wife, Julie, and their two children, Jackson, 4, and Taylor, 3.

Ed Siemens joins A&D Medical
Ed Siemens joined A&D Medical in Milpitas, Calif., to focus on building business in chain drug stores and mass merchant pharmacy departments. Siemens has over 20 years of experience in the home healthcare market place, having worked at McKesson Drug Co., Omron Healthcare and Lifestream Technologies.
Henry Schein names Breslawski president, COO
James Breslawski was named president and COO of Henry Schein Inc. in Melville, N.Y. He was previously executive VP of Henry Schein and president of Sullivan-Schein Dental. Breslawski will have overall responsibility for Henry Schein’s North American dental, medical and technology businesses as well as the company’s global infrastructure services.
